Bushido Karate South Africa was started in 2010 and is currently owned and run by Sensei Ashleigh Barker who has been doing Karate since the age of 5, has been representing Eastern Cape Karate since the age of 8 and has represented South Africa on 7 occasions at International events. She is also a 5x Style World Champion.

We offer traditional Shotokan Karate classes for students from 4 years and there is no age limit.

Karate promotes self confidence, discipline and concentration and is a great way to keep fit whilst learning how to defend yourself.

We endeavor to teach our students the 5 maxims of Karate, with the encouragement that they become a part of their day to day lives and morals.

- Self-Control

We also offer he following :
- Karate demonstrations at school events / birthdays
- Self defense courses at company team buildings / wellness days
- Boot camps / fitness training (beach training included)


Bushido Karate South Africa proudly affiliates to JKS South Africa under Shihan Norman Robinson and we are extremely passionate about our Karate.

Our Students also get affiliated to Eastern Cape Karate as well as Karate South Africa which allows them to take part in various Competitions and Training Sessions. It also allows them to achieve both ECK and KSA colours and represent their province and potentially their Country.

    Learning karate at Bushido is like joining a new family. Close bonds and friendships are formed while learning life lessons through the art of Karate taught by Sensei Ashleigh and Zak. Their dedicated patience is something to behold, that gets the message across. The high ratio of medal to participant in tournaments is a reflection the high quality of teaching at the Dojo.

    More than a year ago, my 13-year-old daughter started her karate career at JKS Bushido, after a invite, and we were accepted with open arms. One month later I was sick of sitting watching them and joined. At 47 quickly realized how much hard work, and fun this can be. At JKS Bushido you become part of a family, and like in a family if Mom (Sensei Ashleigh) is not home dad (Sensei Zac) must step up. Support structures are in place and all students young and OLD are always encouraged to do their best. Character, Sincerity, Effort, Etiquette, Self-control, Love just being there.
