Description

The Ilanga Youth Dance Co was established in 1995. The Principal is Fiona Brown, A.I.S.T.D Dip Cecchetti faculty, Member: Theatre Dance Association Modern, Ballet and Tap, Adv level coach Progressing Ballet Technique and a Senior Accredited Adjudicator, National Eisteddfod of SA. Also teaching is Eidean Botha, contemporary teacher and choreographer. Ballet from 3 to pre professional and adults, Modern from 5 to 18, contemporary from 12 to professional. Tap from 5 up, as well as now introducing Orff Schllmusiek and movement which teaches music theory, basic Instrumental work and music appreciation. We offer Cecchetti Ballet examinations, TDA modern and ballet examinations, TDA Performance Medals, Festival and Eisteddfod participation, bi annual showcases. We also stock outfits and are the exclusive importers of Siberian Swan Pointe Shoes. We have produced several professional dancers and award winners including Jessica Overton (Universal Ballet of Korea) Boysie Dikobe (Washington Ballet School, Ballet Trockaderos de Monte Carlo) , Mahlatse Sachane (Joburg Ballet, Cape Town City Ballet and Lion King touring company) and Eidean Botha (CAPA).

We also have a new venue in Henley on Klip, Meyerton and are proud to be offering our services in that area too.

Fiona is a Professional Events Coordinator and owner of Staged Event Creations, and is in the process of starting an NGO to enable dancers who would not be able to dance for financial reasons, to audition for the Ilanga Centre for Young Performers..
